India Yamaha Motor is planning to launch a new scooter which is mainly targeted to male riders. The new scooter will carry design cues from the company’s latest scooter, the Ray, that was launched targeting female riders. This new scooter will sport a 125cc engine. The scooter is also expected to have very good handling dynamics.
Yamaha is expected to launch the new scooter in mid-2013. The company is focusing more on scooter market in India and is not planning to launch any new motorcycles till 2015. “Our focus is scooters. It is the fastest growing two-wheeler category in India. By 2015, the share of scooters in overall two-wheeler segment is expected to double to 40 per cent from 20 per cent at present,” said Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO and MD.
More manufacturers are trying to enter the scooter segment which has seen some tremendous growth in recent times. Piaggio is planning to launch a new 150cc scooter, called the Typhoon, which is mainly targeted to young buyers. Vespa is also planning to get an upgraded version of the, the LX 125.
