Yamaha has extensive plans to increase its market share in India. They had earlier declared that they will not launch any new motorcycles for India till 2015 and will continue to focus on the scooter market till that year ends. As a part of their strategy, the company launched the Ray scooter last year that was mainly targeted at female riders. In order to gain sales from the male scooter segment, Yamaha launched the Ray Z scooter that has been marketed mainly tageting young male buyers. The company is also planning to launch a new unisex scooter by 2014 to gain more market share in the scooter segment.
Asano Masaki, MD of Yamaha Motor India Ltd. had recently announced that the company finds India to be a very competitive market for two-wheelers from the commuter segment. They also considered the unisex scooter would have a good demand here and also would help them gain good sales eventually increasing their overall volumes.
