  • Yamaha fz 250 abs 2019 full review

    Pallab Mukherjee

Bought the yamaha fz 25 abs model in february 2019. Considering the highly rated reviews on youtube and feedback given by other riders on various blogs about this particular motorcycle, my expectations were high however within 3 months of use i can safely conclude that the yamaha fz 25 is a piece of junk at rupees 1.55 lakh on road price. There was already a clicking sound from the tappets of the engine within 1 month of use. I assure readers of this review that i have been a rider for almost 25 years and well aware of the restrictions of the initial run in period. I have not exceeded the mandated speed limits during the first 1000 kms run-in period. My first experience of yamaha service center was pathetic since the (so claimed) well trained service engineers at the yamaha authorized centers were not even able to open the tappet covers on the engine and instead damaged them during the process by not using the correct t tools. After a third visit to the yamaha authorized service center the yamaha engineers claimed to have fixed the tappet sounds but it still exists. There is also a clunky cluttering sound which starts emanating from the engine once you have reached the 45 - 60 kmph which is completely unexpected from a brand new bike. As per yamaha authorized service engineers this sound of clanking and clicking is a natural sound of the engine and they actually made me drive another very old rickety fz 25 just to prove their point. (honestly this is a nightmare and a pathetic joke). I read articles where people claim a top speed of 130 -- 140 kmph on this bike but i have my doubts since the engine on this bike starts rattling and their are serious vibrations once you reach 80 - 90 kmph. A new problem which started recently was the ignition key getting stuck when you try to withdraw it after locking the bike. Again yamaha engineers said it will be fine if we put some oil in it which did not happen. Since the bike is under warranty i asked them to replace the ignition lock set which they flatly refused. Overall if you can live with clattering and clicking highly irritating sound coming from the engine everyday that you this bike then go ahead and buy this motorcycle. The gear shifts during downshifting are inaccurate, hard and a real pain due to lack of a slipper clutch which is expected from a motorcycle in this price range. The front headlights which are led are an absolute joke and visibility is extremely poor (god knows what yamaha designers were thinking when designing this motorcycle). Good powerful headlights are extremely crucial on a motorcycle for riders overall safety specially at night. The only positive about this motorcycle is the amazing torque which comes at just 6000 rpm and gives you that sheer adrenaline rush which i understand is the top selling point of this motorcycle. A water cooled engine would have been an icing on the cake but as of now you have a air-cooled engine thanks to the cost cutting techniques from yamaha. The dual abs in the new 2019 model does a fantastic job at braking but the rear wheel braking definitely needs more more teeth and aggression. In terms of colour options you just get a very limited choice out of which the 2 matt finish are definitely not appealing and feels very cheap due to the all round matt finish plastic. When buying a new fz 25 abs you just don't get the feel of taking home a spanking shiny brand new bike if you have chosen the matt finish colour option. I think yamaha is trying to cut cost in the paint division too by restricting the colour options. Both the riding position, rider seat and also the pillion seat is broad and very comfortable unlike many other bikes and job well done by yamaha. The instrument cluster is basic and outdated and shows limited options on screen, you need to make multiple clicks on the switch to get additional information. It also does not have a gear indicator on the instrument console and with just 5 gears it may not be too confusing but definitely would have been more easier for riders when driving in heavy traffic. If you look around and understand the term value for money, then there are definitely other better options available in the market. You just need to do some r&d and maybe shell out some more cash but in the long run you won't regret your decision and the riding pleasure will nullify your pain of spending the extra... Ride safe and always wear your helmet..

    Ranodip Sarkar

Costs around 1.5 lakhs . All these people who gave shitty reviews and low stars don't know what they are talking about . It has decent mileage about 35-40 depending on your riding . At this price you could go for dominoes but it's a bajaj bike so not that reliable and even lower mileage on that . Plus this is the fastest 250cc right now leaving all 2 lakh plus bikes . So this is the best for in city and occasional highway trips . And about the power there will be power loss on every bike for you as it ages this bike will have the lowest power loss compared to bajaj bikes that's yamaha for you guys

  • Surprisingly fast and a great all rounder!

    Abbas

Welcome to the fz 25 review that, hopefully, will explain all facts that you are looking for. Here we go!

    Who must read this review?

    • if you are a potential buyer for a 200+ cc motorcycle or want to know about fz 25, do spare some time in reading this short draft.

    Who has written this review?

    • i am an it guy. I’ve completed about 3k kms on fz 25 for home-to-office and for miscellaneous reasons. Predominantly using this motorcycle for city commute within mumbai.

    Introduction

    • yamaha fz 25 is a 250 cc motorcycle that offers great low-end torque thereby providing outright acceleration with little throttle. When in traffic, fz 25 is the motorcycle that you must consider!

    Ride comfort

    • great rider seat that offers upright riding position. No backache. Handle bars are placed where they must be. Pillion seat is properly designed and adequately cushioned.

    Mileage

Fuel injection working with the blue core engine does it for you.

    • 32-36 for city rides

    • 40 for highways

    Speed and acceleration

    • the motorcycle is a savior when you ride in traffic. 0-60 is hardly 3.3 seconds and you are ahead of everybody. The throttle wrooms your bike with an amazing bassy exhaust that pumps the adrenaline flow! the acceleration is just what you want. The top speed may not be too attractive…about 140+. However, i am sure you don’t ride at any bikes’ top speed in the city.

    Safety

    • despite abs’ absence, the rear brakes are super-progressive. Nevertheless, abs is abs. You can’t turn blind-eye on abs’ significance. Tyre grip is above average. However, ride any bike at speed that you can control.

    Maintenance

    • not too costly, not too cheap! yamaha’s spares are moderately priced. I paid about 1600 for the first service that included fi cleaning, in addition to the conventional service artifacts.

    Handling

    • oh my gosh! amazing to handle. I upgraded from hornet 160 to fz 25 and immediately sensed superior handling in fz 25. Turning and cornering are charm!

    Price

    • it’s known that the price is aggressive. I differ! i say, the price is justified. While the bike’s engine is superb and headlamp is awesome, the average quality of indicators, simplistic instrumental cluster, abs’ absence, poor mirrors and several minute artifacts keep the price justified and not aggressive. Ktm duke 200 is costlier for a reason…for being better in the aforementioned aspects of a bike. 1.4 lacs on road should be in any city.

    Miscellaneous

    • rear view mirrors are useless. Change them the moment you own this motorcycle. The tyre hugger is only a show piece; it won’t protect mud splash on pillion rider’s back. Bike is amazing in looks and speed. Mileage is quite up to the mark for a 250 cc engine. Comfortable it is and the fun you have while riding!

Thanks for reading! signing off for now. You have a great day.

  • My new yamaha fz25 my new chariot!

    Shankarnarayan Ps

Owner of white yamaha fz25 since september 2017. 1475 km done. First service done.

Buying: best part is that such a great bike has very short waiting period. I was amazed when msp in bangalore banashankari outer ring road delivered it in two days.

The first ride was a trial ride before i bought the bike and i fell in love with the bike within 8 seconds! i had tried dominar and re himalayan before i got my hands on fz25. The ride quality, the amazing road grip, the engine sound (i can meditate with that sound in background) and seating position were the features that swept me off my feet. The body weight is apt for someone like me who is just looking to upgrade from a 150cc commuter to next level.

It looks great and feels great. Though the black one more resembles the fz2.0, the white stands out like a boss. Yamaha never uses the split handles and i love that part. It brings in a comfortable seating posture and you can handle your bike in one finger each side. Suspension is another aspect where yamaha could beat all its rivals by a great margin. The throttle response is good(though rtr and dominar would fare better). The pickup after 50+ is superb and the bike gives enough confidence to reach speeds above 90. Mileage (though we aren't supposed to talk about fuel efficiency of these beasts) is pretty decent. 33kmpl in bangalore traffic condition on a 250cc bike is best you can ask for. Braking is a cakewalk since i already told you guys about the road grip. This chariot, stays glued to the roads! after the first service the ride quality became smoother which i did not like. I love that wrooommm way of my yamaha. I hope it will be back to its best sound soon. Seat could have been softer. Rides going beyond 2 hours are painful (you know where ;-)). Gears are good except the normal yamaha issue of slip during shift from 1st to second. Missing 6th gear is really a drawback. The ignition not placed in center is a bit odd and takes time to adjust. Display (cluster) is pretty basic one. Fuel indication is not very consistent need to see how it goes after service.

Servicing was good on-time, prompt and issues that i reported has been addressed. However, its too early to comment yet.

    Pros:

    Engine and ride quality

    Value for money

    Brilliant road grip and braking

    Good throttle response and pickup.

    Suspension.

    Cons:

Head lamp could have been much better. People who love to ride at night on highways won't like this.

    Gear slip (as usual)

No abs! i don't know how yamaha missed this one.

Color choices are too low. Nothing at all to choose. Surprising that fz-s has so many colors and fz25 has so less.

No 6th gear. Another feature that yamaha missed could have made this an awesome bike.

    Hard seats

    Basic display (cluster)

  • Yamaha fz-25 for the maniac & the gentleman in you!

    Ruhshaad

Love first walked into my life when i was 8 months old. Dad brought home a shining red "yamaha" rx-100 back in 1987. Though i do not have memory of that rainy day delivery itself, the rx will always remain my first memory of a motorcycle. 31 years from then, the "made in japan" tag is still intact on the engine cover and she still behaves like a teenager when given the beans. But this isn't about the rx-100. You can't describe love in words. This is however, about her sibling born 3 decades later, brought home under similar circumstances and weather conditions. This is about the yamaha fz-25.When i first rode the yamaha fz25 back in may last year, i had a herniated disc and walked like a car with two right punctured tyres. When i got a call from the yamaha showroom that the test bike had arrived and will be available only for a few hours, i couldn't miss it. I somehow managed to hop onto my then royal enfield himalayan and with a face that grimaced with every pothole and undulation on the road, reached the yamaha showroom. Once i rode the fz, the grimace turned into a big wide grin. As i hopped on again on my himalayan, the decision was made. The himalayan had to go. The fz came into our lives in june last year but i still couldn't ride enough, given my back condition. 9 months and umpteen hours of physiotherapy hence, i am back on the saddle. While i still can't ride as much as i used to, i can ride enough to write about it. So lets get started.Starting with the looks, it's a thoroughbred naked and it's a thoroughbred yamaha. The street presence is amazing and the one can easily mistake it for a middleweight naked. The twin led headlamp does a decent job in illuminating the street. On the highway though, one would need to upgrade the torches for a better throw and spread. Moving on to the instrument cluster and this is the first place where yamaha India leaves you wanting for more. While it does have an odo, two trips, a clock, average speed and a fuel efficiency indicator, there is only one toggle for all the options. So for instance, you can't have the clock and the odo displayed at the same time and that's a bit of a downer. The all digital cluster itself has an orange backlight and is nice and bright even in direct sunlight. Next up, the dynamics. The bike feels light on its feet and that's because it is. At 800 mm, the seat height is just right for an average sized indian. The riding stance, though aggressive, is not tiring in the city, nor out on the highway either. What's lacking for the 800 kms a day tourers though, is wind protection and yamaha should seriously think about adding optional accessories to this bike.Moving on to the heart of the motorcycle, its engine and this is where the fun begins. On the specs sheet, the engine technology is well, not the latest. When you ride it though, it is in a league of its own. There is tremendous amount of torque in the low and mid revs. The throttle response is just unbelievably instant. There isn't even a split second wasted in what your right wrist orders and what your rear wheel does and unlike its european competition, the engine is very tractable and doesn't knock at lower revs. For instance, you can pull comfortably from 45 kph in 5th gear without even the slightest hint of the engine knocking and before you know it, you're doing triple digit speeds. If you're into riding for breakfast rides with a group of 600+ cc motorcycles, you won't be left too far behind in the pack as this engine can sit at 120-125 kph comfortably all day long. It takes fast commuting and short distance touring to an all new level. Another great feature of this engine is heat management. The engine doesn't heat even in heavy traffic, in direct sunlight. In terms of heat management, it really feels like a 150cc motor. I have not ridden anything like it in this category of motorcycles. You have to ride it to experience it.However, and there is a however, yamaha India once again leaves you wanting for more in terms of a tall, overdrive 6th gear. I still try searching for it upwards of just 80 kph. Not that the engine loses steam or feels stressed at triple digit speeds. It just loses that relaxed, tractable nature and gets into that hungry for more mode beyond 80 kph. That brings me to the transmission. With the least amount of clutch lever slack, the 5 speed gearbox is quite precise with no false neutrals. Finding neutral at a traffic light does require a try or two. However, if you kill the engine, it slots into neutral like a hot knife through butter. That makes me think that there may still be some work needed in the clutch department but i'm just nitpicking here.Coming to the ride and handling, the bike is well balanced, stable at high speeds and eager to corner or change directions in traffic. It's not as sharp as the track focused yamaha r15 or the ktm's for that matter but it does the job fairly well. Once again, cost cutting by yamaha india is very evident in the tyre department. The stock mrf's are built for a longer tread life and do not instill much confidence in corners. It's a great chassis setup let down by the tyres. Thankfully, that's not much of a task to change and i will be making that change soon. An area of concern that cannot be easily set straight though is braking. The brakes lack the initial bite and feel spongy. A harder pull on the levers and they provide enough feel, feedback and stopping power. Just the lack of initial bite once again lets you think that this bike was not designed for the enthusiasts. To top it all, there is no abs available, even as an option. All in all, this yamaha is easy to own, easy to ride and easy to maintain. In the city, the bike returns a fuel economy of around 35 kmpl which is mind boggling for the amount of grunt it packs in. The spares are not expensive, the service costs are low and at 1.4 lakhs, otr, mumbai, it is a package hard to refuse. Where it leaves the enthusiast wanting for more is better braking, better transmission, better tyres and a more comprehensive instrument cluster. So whom is this bike for? it is for the ones who are seeking that balance between performance and practicality. It is for the seeker of joy, for the seeker of reliability. It is for that valentino rossi fan who goes to work wearing a tie and goes weekend riding wearing leathers!

    Amit Chaudhary

I have ridden approx 390 km. This bike is not that much i was expecting. As old fz is known for power+smoothness, but after 6000 rpm fz25 foot pegs starts vibration. Pickup is really nice but speed top end not good. Look wise perfect, mileage nice. Waiting for first service because service manager said that after service this will be smoother. You will definitely feel lack of 6th gear. I will share my experience after first service also.

Very nice and smooth ride .Having good pickup. Approx. 38.8-40 Km per litre mileage is giving after its 1st service. Good handling even at high speed. Provides confidence for breaking power. Good engine sound. Very comfortable sitting position.Gear shifting is still not very comfortable for neutral position. But it is a complete package and value for hard earned money.

This is really powerful engine with 20nm torque u fill like a u r using a supersport bike. Its weight is about 148kg n its mileage is just far better from rs200, ns200 orduke200. This bike has fi system, company claims the mileage for this bike is 43kmpl but you got approx 40kmpl. Its top speed is aproxx 150kmph. Highly comfortable suspensions best handling experience.. . Really awesome n much happier from mileage, torque.. And one more thing this is cheapest bike in segment of 250 cc...

  • A good bike for daily commute and long rides

    Deepak

    1. Buying experience > had good and smooth experience while buying. Took it from bangalore wheels rajajinagar, bengaluru. 2. Riding experience > riding is smooth and good balance. 3. Details about looks, performance etc.: look-wise it is okay. 4. Servicing and maintenance: there is a pipe near engine behind the front tire, that gets soiled and can't be cleaned (claimed by service center).5. Not too heavy, body is not so strong. You can comfortably ride at 100kmph. Mileage is at 30-35kmpl. Acceleration is good. Overall i liked the bike.

  • Yamaha fz 250 abs 2019 full review

Bought the yamaha fz 25 abs model in february 2019.

Guys really awesome buying experience of this bike i m so happy after buying this bike. I have owned it for 6000kms. 1st u should go for a test ride n then decide to buy it because u gonna love this bike.

Guys really awesome buying experience of this bike i m so happy after buying this bike. I have owned it for 6000kms. 1st u should go for a test ride n then decide to buy it because u gonna love this bike.

  • Not up to the mark.

  • Complete bike for everyone

Very nice and smooth ride .Having good pickup. Approx. 38.8-40 Km per litre mileage is giving after its 1st service. Good handling even at high speed. Provides confidence for breaking power. Good engine sound. Very comfortable sitting position.Gear shifting is still not very comfortable for neutral position. But it is a complete package and value for hard earned money.

Guys really awesome buying experience of this bike i m so happy after buying this bike. I have owned it for 6000kms. 1st u should go for a test ride n then decide to buy it because u gonna love this bike.
