Introduction

Combustion. If it’s still a thing on our motorcycles, then we better get the most from it. To that effect, especially for the Hero Xpulse 200 4V, Ngage Powerparts has put together an NGK Iridium Spark Plug kit.

For those not in the know, Ngage Powerparts, as the name suggests, is into manufacturing and supplying performance parts for motorcycles. It makes its air filters for most India-made bikes, and it is also an official distributor of brands like Ohlins, NGK and Koso. And as it turns out, we have tested Ngage’s products on BikeWale in the past.

The Kit

The Iridium Spark Plug kit has four pieces in the box. The hero here is the iridium spark plug from NGK, of course. An iridium spark plug has a bunch of advantages. Yes, it is expensive, but it lasts significantly longer than regular plugs without losing much of its effectiveness. That’s down to the hardness of iridium as a material and the fact that the plug runs hotter. The latter ensures fewer deposits on the plug that might impede its performance.

The kit includes a thicker than the stock HT wire. As we know, the thicker the wire, the lesser the resistance to current flow. It should help with the effectiveness of the ignition system. There is an NGK suppressor cap in the kit as well. From our experience, these are less prone to shorting than stock ones. These are pricier, no doubt, but longer lasting as well. Finally, it also includes a splicer to connect the new HT wire with the ignition coil’s moulded wire output.

The complete kit costs Rs 5,000. And as of now, Ngage is not selling these as individual items.

The Promise

According to Ngage Powerparts, the spark plug kit has half a dozen advantages. It claims the kit will help improve the standing start acceleration of the Xpulse 4V. It will reduce the number of misfires. This might be difficult for us to judge because our bike running on stock setup doesn’t misfire even now. The kit should help improve combustion, says the box. And of this, we have no doubt. We’d bet on the performance being more consistent with this setup than see an outright increase.

Ngage also promises a more stable idle. It should be interesting because the stock 4V when cold has quite an erratic idle. Plus, it would be great if this helps level it out. Now, given the kit promises to improve combustion, it’s only natural that fuel efficiency should improve as well. And Ngage says it does. Finally, the Xpulse should be easier to start with this kit installed compared to the stock setup on colder mornings.

What’s next?
