Introduction
Every single time I have gone off-road or hit some forest trails, I’ve used the Quest Pro protective base layer. I’ve also used it on the road, but not for long tours. It is usually while riding to the shoot location, which lasts for about two to three hours. In terms of usage numbers, this gear would have been tested for almost 2000 km.
What’s good?
The aesthetics after wearing it. Seriously! Once you wear the Questro Base layers, especially for the upper body, you tend to look not just leaner than you are but also quite good. The overall fit around the shoulder and chest is really good. Even the back fitting looks quite nice, and with the yellow armours popping out of the layers, the overall styling is attractive.
The other thing I liked about the fabric was its lightness. This makes it easy to wear, and the overall feel of it is quite nice. The story is the same for the low base layer, too. Also, due to the nature of the fabric, it is super easy to remove and install the armours. I tend to wash the gear after two rides, and due to this fabric, I do manage to save some time.
Luckily, I haven’t had any falls or crashes with this gear. Due to this, the armour testing hasn’t been done. And to be honest, I don’t want to.
What’s not good?
While I did mention my liking towards the aesthetic aspect of the gear, there’s a big downside – the breathability. Every time I wear the upper layer of the Quest Pro, I feel suffocated. The gear sticks to the body and in Mumbai heat, it bothers you to the core. Even after wearing a t-shirt underneath it, the fabric feels sticky and that is not a good feeling to have. And when you try to remove the gear after a sweaty day of riding, it is a bit of an effort to remove it.
This discomfort isn’t seen much on the lower body as that area tends to have lesser body fat than the upper body. But yes, removing the base layer pants is an effort after a long day of riding.
What’s next?
The 2024 monsoon has ended, and the famous Mumbai heat is ongoing. For now, I have no motivation to use the Quest Pro, but I’m looking forward to using it for my next month’s 2000 km ride down to Goa. The temperature will be nicer, and so will the roads, hopefully.
