Introduction

Top View

After helmets, balaclavas, jerseys, and much more, Indian manufacturer, Tiivra, is venturing into the gloves segment of the Indian market. Their flagship model, the DS Apex, recently arrived at Bikewale for a comprehensive road test review. Now, this probably is not the perfect time to have these since Tiivra markets these as summer gloves, and the monsoons have arrived in full swing. Nevertheless, we will try our best to use the gloves as much as possible to bring you a comprehensive conclusion report in a few months. Here, however, we list out the basics of these gloves, including their features, material, and safety.

The Basics

The DS Apex are mid-cuff riding gloves, and available at Rs. 3,450. Tiivra has designed these gloves for multiple riding environments such as touring, urban, and off-roading. And that is exactly why these come integrated with air ventilation to ensure comfort during long hours on the saddle or while tackling dirt on a warm and sunny day.

Then, the design is modern, while the colour option – just one for now – is bold. However, the black base ensures that the bright yellow design is not too loud for one’s choice, and it certainly works for me. Further, the 'Throttle Hand' design is an aesthetic add-on that the company says celebrates the 'Throttlers' on the road. Now, while these gloves are very likeable, their application is limited to certain seasons – mostly summers. So, do the features make up for the limited use of these gloves? Absolutely.

The Features

Rear View

Apart from looking stylish, these gloves pack a Katai fabric that is combined with a thermoplastic rubber (TPR) knuckle protector – and both these are claimed to be strong and abrasion-resistant. At the same time, the TPR material adds flexibility to these gloves, thus making them off-road friendly as well. Then, you get the regular bits, such as palm protectors, for added safety. Further, the gloves come with a handy pull tab on the cuff that is designed to ease the task of wearing them, while the hook-and-loop wrist strap, with its elastic construction, ensures a proper fit.

Hand Guards

Meanwhile, the convenience factor is enhanced with the ‘conductive fingertip’ feature that allows for ease of use of touchscreen devices – say your smartphone, a GPS, or even the displays on modern electric scooters. Do note that unlike some of the other gloves in the market, the Tiivra DS Apex comes with all touchscreen capabilities on all fingers.

What’s Next?

Since the monsoons are in full swing, we will be using the Tiivra DS gloves in moderation for a few months, and then regularly once the weather becomes sunnier. We would put these to use in various riding conditions – street, touring, and some off-roading – and tell you how well they age over the next few months.
