Introduction

It’s a rarity to find motorcycle gloves with CE Level 2 protection. So, when you chance upon one, you know you have landed yourself something special. The Alpinestars SuperTech Gloves belong to this exclusive club which, for all you know, might still be a club of one.

Launched in 2016 to replace the GP Tech range, the SuperTech gloves have been developed based on the feedback from MotoGP champions like Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo. Like the GP Tech, these too come with complete Kevlar lining for the back of the hand. This again, isn’t common in riding gloves. Kevlar, obviously, adds another layer of abrasion and heat protection over and above leather.

Protection Plan

And that’s not all. The SuperTech Gloves now also get Keprotech on the outside. Keprotech is a light but highly abrasion-resistant fabric of sorts, which is woven out of Cordura and Aramid. Alpinestars has replaced the traditional hard bits in the lower palm area, and on the outer part of the hand, with this new material. There’s also some around the top of the finger area. The Italian gear maker claims that Keprotech not only adds to the protection, but the lack of hard parts also helps improve the feel for the rider.

The SuperTech Gloves continue to sport Alpinestars’ DFS or Dynamic Friction Shield for knuckle protection. DFS is designed to have high resistance against repeated impacts. Additionally, the gloves come with TPU bits – like on top of the fingers and around the wrist area – for added protection against impact and abrasion. Not to mention, these gloves use supple and strong Kangaroo leather in its construction.

Comfort Call

Sure, the SuperTech are right up there when it comes to track focused gloves. And, therefore, protection takes centre stage. But, Alpinestars has done well here to bring in high levels of comfort and feel for the rider as well.

To begin with, the leather around the fingers and thumb area is pre-shaped or curved. This, says Alpinestars, reduces rider fatigue. There’s some ventilation too. The knuckles have intake and exhaust ports, and the wrist area has huge air intakes and perforation.

Furthermore, to improve feel and movement, there’s a stretch accordion around the thumb, and then some towards the back of the hand. Alpinestars has also moved the seam or the stitching for the leather around the fingers more upwards. This should help improve the feel, and the longevity, as the seams are now less prone to wear.

So how do these feel on the bike? Well, that and more are coming up in the follow-up report. In the meantime, these gloves are available only on order. Sold by Dream Sporting Gear, the seller says it takes 40 days for the order to come in after the customer has paid in full for them.
