Best Bikes for Women: Top 3 Cruisers

Main Stand

Cruisers, for the longest time, have been my choice of machine when it comes to long-distance touring and the episodic city runabouts. And why not, it feels right at home on those long winding roads. And it makes you look uber cool too. I mean, the tattooed guys at the countryside cafe wearing cowboy shoes swear by their beers and cruisers. Now, I don’t have cowboy shoes and I’m not even cool for that matter. I’m just a wanna-be motorcyclist with a slight penchant for cruisers. So, the list that follows consists of my best picks for women in the segment. These picks haven’t been made basis of how pretentiously sassy I look on them. Rather, certain parameters have been kept in mind while making the choice and you can read about it here. So, let’s get to the list?

1. Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220

Left Side View

Bajaj launched the BS6 iteration of the Avenger Cruise 220 in early April. Priced at Rs 1.21 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the Cruise 220 boasts of a relaxed riding position with a low seat height and high handlebar set-up. What makes it all the more ideal for women is the fact that it is one of the lighter motorcycles in its segment; 163kgs to be precise. Moreover, it is known for its value-for-money proposition, good fuel efficiency and the great service backing of Bajaj. You can learn more about the Avenger Cruise 220 in our first ride review here.

2. Jawa Standard

Right Side View

Jawa is a legendary brand that made a comeback in the Indian market with the Standard. While it looks like Jawas of the yore, it’s all modern underneath. The comfortable seating ergonomics, well-proportioned build, low seat height and great ride and handling is what makes it the bee’s knees in this list, especially for women. The Jawa comes with a price tag of Rs 1.74 lakh which makes it considerably more expensive than the Avenger. And with a kerb weight of 170kgs, it’s also heavier. But you’re bound to turn a lot of heads while you’re riding it. We rode the Jawa standard extensively and you can read our take on it here.

3. Royal Enfield Meteor 350

Right Side View

The latest addition to the RE stables, the Meteor 350 is a more stylish and more feature-rich version of the Thunderbird 350. It gets wide handlebars, a large and comfortable seat and slightly forward-set footpegs which make for an ideal riding triangle. Moreover, with a low seat height of 765mm, the Meteor 350 is a perfect fit for shorter riders too. Now, RE has tuned and built this motorcycle keeping in mind newer riders so it’s quite a friendly motorcycle in terms of ride and handling; making it an ideal motorcycle for women riders. And while it’s the heaviest in the list with a kerb weight of 191kgs, the motorcycle is well-balanced and does not feel heavy. It also boasts of the largest fuel tank of 15 litres as against the Avenger and Jawa’s 13 and 14 litre fuel tank respectively. Royal Enfield has priced the Meteor at Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) which makes it the priciest one in the list. You can read the detailed review of the Meteor 350 here.

And that was all for this week. Next week, we’ll be back with yet another list of picks. So stay tuned to Bikewale.
