The rain gods provided a much-needed relief after a scorching action-packed day 2 of Asia Road Racing Championship Round 4 at the MMRT. During the qualifications, Anthony West of Australia recorded the best ever lap record at the Chennai’s racetrack with a time of 1.40.585 seconds. He went on to win the SuperSport 600 category after a tough battle with Honda’s 19-year old Taiga Hada. Taking the second place with them both on the podium was Malaysian Md. Zaqhwan Zaidi.
Meanwhile, in the Asia Production 250 Class, Idemitsu Honda Racing India scored their first point of the season as local boy Rajiv Sethu finished 13th moving up six positions after starting the race at 19th. However, another Indian rider and ARRC debutant, Anish Shetty crashed on the seventh lap. On the podium for the AP250 category was Indonesia’s Rheza Danica Ahrens who won his fifth consecutive race this season. Giving him a run for his money was his fellow countryman Mario Suryo Aji who finished second. And joining them both on the podium was ONEXOX Yamaha’s Reynaldo Chrisantho.
In the exciting Underbone 150 category, Ahmed Fazli Sham bagged the first place with a last-minute win over Md Helmi Azman. Thailand’s Peerapong Luiboonpeng completed the podium with the two Malaysians.
Rajiv Sethu, Idemitsu Honda Racing India team by T.Pro Ten10, after securing his first point of the season, said, “While I had a bad start today and I was confident of the setup of my bike. Too many riders crowding around me which kept pushing me outside of the racing line. But I kept my cool and kept gaining on everyone. Climbing 6 positions, I am ecstatic to score my first points for the season in front of the home crowd. However, today, I clocked my best ever time (01:50.555) on this track. Hopefully, I will perform better tomorrow.”
