Yamaha’s latest motocross bike is an all-new machine, featuring a new engine, frame and bodywork. It is also available with the world’s first engine tuning app available as a standard feature.
A communication control unit (CCU) connects a smartphone app to the bike via Wi-Fi.
The app, named the Yamaha Power Tuner, monitors variables like engine RPM, throttle position, coolant temperatures, race settings and maintenance intervals. It allows for the modification of fuel and ignition mapping on the engine. The app also allows users to share settings and other information among their team or with friends.
As for the YZ450F, the bike uses a reverse engine layout as the previous model with an updated cylinder head, ‘bridge-box’ piston design, cam profiles, crankshaft and new throttle body.
It rides on a fully adjustable KYB suspension setup, with coil-spring forks and a standard rear shock. It also gets revised ergonomics thanks to the lowered seat height.
The 2018 YZ450F gets an electric starter which means the riders can start their bikes even if they missed leg day at the gym. With a 6.2 litre tank capacity the bike has a kerb weight of 111kg.
The bike is available in Yamaha blue and a limited edition white colour.
