-Leaked patents reveal details
-Likely to get cosmetic updates and VVT
-Expected to be unveiled by end of 2019
The rumour mill regarding the 2020 Suzuki GSX-R1000 has been spinning for quite a while. And now, leaked patents have revealed a few details about the upcoming motorcycle.
One of the biggest upgrades will be to the GSX-R1000’s 999cc, inline-four cylinder engine. According to the patents, the 2020 model’s motor will come equipped with a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology that has been derived from Suzuki’s MotoGP machine. The system is oil-pressured and like most other manufacturer’s technology, activates both the intake and exhaust cams. Furthermore, Suzuki will also tune the engine to comply with the Euro 5 emission norms.
Apart from this, the leaked documents also reveal that the 2020 GSX-R1000 will get minor tweaks to its bodywork. The fairing vents seem to be redesigned for optimum air-flow and the tank seems to be longer while the seat is thinner. Moreover, the tail section and front end looks sharper than the current motorcycle. However, the 2020 GSX-R1000’s chassis and swingarm are likely to be unchanged.
Suzuki is likely to unveil the 2020 GSX-R1000 at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show or 2019 EICMA. We can expect the motorcycle to arrive in India a few months after its global unveil. As for competition, it will take on the BMW S1000RR, Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Yamaha YZF-R1 and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
