- To be sold in two variants (R and S)
- Will get radar-based adaptive cruise control system
- 2021 models will feature updated styling
KTM will soon update its arsenal of adventure tourer motorcycles with the 2021 1290 Super Adventure R and Super Adventure S models. A technical snag revealed the model pages for both variants of the flagship ADV from the Austrian brand but it was soon taken off the website.
However, it wasn't before the details were captured by the motoring website, Motorcycle.com. As per the information published by the website, the 2021 KTM Super Adventure R and Super Adventure S will receive radar-based adaptive cruise control system. It isn't a big surprise as rival brands like Ducati and BMW, too, have adopted the technology. In fact, Ducati's new Multistrada V4 has already been launched with the tech.
Apart from that, the 2021 model will also carry design upgrades, the biggest of which will be the low-slung fuel tank - a feature that we have already seen on the KTM 790/890 Adventure motorcycles. The list of updates doesn't end there. According to the source report, the 2021 iteration of the 1290 Super Adventure R will receive tubeless tyre-compatible wire-spoke wheels. The S variant, on the other hand, will continue to use alloy wheels.
The fuel capacity will remain unaffected during the upgrade although it will reportedly arrive with an electronically opened cap and a small storage compartment with a USB socket at the front. Both bikes will also feature a lower seat height which will make them more accessible for shorter riders.
On the mechanical end, the motor will pack two catalytic converters, a reworked exhaust system, and a twin radiator layout. The V-twin, liquid-cooled engine will reportedly deliver 158bhp and 138Nm of peak torque.
Features such as Brembo brakes and semi-active suspension setup will be carried forward from the 2020 model. The electronics package will include a tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, and selectable ride modes. The 2021 model will feature a new seven-inch TFT display instead of the unit on the 2020 version.
The unveiling details are scarce, although considering that the webpages are already designed and ready to go LIVE, we could hear an announcement very soon. While the flagship ADV Tourer is not likely to reach the Indian shores, the Austrian brand is preparing to upgrade the RC series in the country, and we could see the updated RC 125, RC 200, and RC 390 very soon. In fact, the production-spec 2021 KTM RC 200 was recently spied at the company's factory and you can read all about it here.
