Yamaha has recently unveiled its all-new supersport offering, the YZF-R7, for the international markets. It sits between the YZF R6 and the litre-class YZF R1. But unlike both these bikes, the R7 is not only aimed at track bike enthusiasts but also brings practicality to the table. In that case, we take a look at the details of this middle-weight supersport, the R7, along with its pictures.
Starting with the heart of the matter, the R7 is powered by the same 698cc, parallel-twin cylinder engine that has been used in the MT-07 street bike. It is tuned to produce 72.4bhp at 8,750rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm.
Its 17-inch alloy wheels are suspended by 41mm fully-adjustable inverted front forks sourced from KYB while the rear section sports a preload and rebound-adjustable mono shock.
Stopping its Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport tyres are twin radially-mounted 298mm discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear.
In terms of features, it’s not as equipped as you would expect a modern middle-weight supersport to be. The only rider aid you get as standard is a slipper clutch while a quick shifter is available as an option.
Besides a full-LED lighting setup, there’s an LCD console with a high-contrast negative mode display, instead of a full-colour TFT screen.
Coming to the styling, while the design of the R7 has cues of other R series motorcycles, it has certain distinctive elements, like a projector headlamp sitting at the centre of the front air intake. Yamaha has introduced the bike in two colour options – Icon Blue and Yamaha Black.
Unfortunately, Yamaha won’t launch the new YZF-R7 in India anytime soon. It will only be available in the international markets where it competes against the Aprilia RS660 and the Honda CBR650R.
