- Gets new paint theme
- KTMConnect app benefits from Turn-by-Turn+ system
- Indian launch unlikely
KTM has unveiled the 2023 iteration of its flagship adventure tourer motorcycle, the 1290 Super Adventure R. This off-road biased model joins the road-focussed 2023 1290 Super Adventure S. For 2023, the motorcycle gets a dual-tone paint theme that comprises a combination of white and orange.
Meanwhile, the styling remains unaltered and the 2023 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R retains the aggressively styled LED headlight, short windscreen, semi-fairing design, three-piece 21-litre fuel tank, step-up seat, and a side-slung exhaust. The mechanical specifications, too, remain unchanged and this model continues to use the 1,301cc, V-twin, liquid-cooled engine. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor produces 158bhp and 138Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, the service intervals are set at 15,000km.
The electronic rider aids, which work with Bosch 6D lean angle sensor, comprise traction control, stability control, ride modes, and ABS, among others. Other electronics on this motorcycle comprise full-LED lighting, a seven-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, keyless functionality, tyre pressure management, and an optional Quickshifter+. The instrument cluster works with KTMConnect smartphone application that benefits from the Turn-by-Turn+ guidance system. KTM will also offer several optional accessories via its PowerParts collection.
The suspension tasks are handled by 48mm WP XPLOR split cartridge front forks and an adjustable rear monoshock. Further, this motorcycle rides on ALPINA aluminium spoked wheels shod in Bridgestone AX41s tubeless tyres. Meanwhile, the braking system includes twin 320mm discs at the front and a single 267mm rotor at the back.
The 1290 Super Adventure R rivals the likes of the BMW R 1250 GS and Ducati Multistrada V4 in the international markets. While the BMW and Ducati adventure tourers are already available in the Indian market, this KTM is unlikely to arrive on our shores in the foreseeable future.
