Yamaha India is set to launch its 300cc and 700cc motorcycles in India in the second half of this year. The R3 is also included in the upcoming models and has already been showcased to select dealers. Let’s take a closer look at the YZF R3 sold overseas.
The 2023 YZF R3 gets a split headlight topped by a bubble visor and an air vent in between. The latest iteration looks substantially different compared to the model sold in 2019. Overall, it looks docile.
However, the R3 is more of a sports tourer than a thoroughbred supersport motorcycle. It gets rear-set footpegs, slightly raised clip-on handlebars, and a split seat setup.
Yamaha has powered the YZF R3 with a 321cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that makes 40.4bhp and 29.4Nm. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox and comes nestled in a diamond-type frame.
The R3 rides on telescopic front forks and a monoshock. Meanwhile, its braking hardware comprises a 298mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc with ABS. The brakes are mounted on 17-inch alloys shod to a 110/70 front and a 140/70 rear tyre.
On the feature front, the Yamaha R3 gets a fully digital LCD. It houses various readouts including the speedometer, odometer, trip meter, gear position indicator, time, fuel level reading, and more.
Though the R3’s instrument cluster is neatly laid out and provides extensive data, it misses out on smartphone connectivity. On the other hand, its rivals like the KTM RC 390 and TVS Apache RR 310 are equipped with Bluetooth.
In the UK, Yamaha retails the R3 at GBP 6,405 (approximately Rs. 6.5 lakh, sans taxes). We expect Yamaha to reduce the price in India since it’s a price-sensitive market and the 300-400cc segment here has notably affordable rivals.
