2025 Yamaha MT-09 to get Y-AMT semi-automatic system

- Yamaha confirms automated manual transmission option

- There’s a fully automatic and manual mode to change gears

- There is no clutch lever

The 2025 Yamaha MT-09 street naked bike will get the Y-AMT semi-automatic system, as confirmed by the company. The company had showcased the automated manual transmission in June.

The Y-AMT system uses two electronic actuators that replace the clutch lever and foot shifter operations for the rider. It works in conjunction with the ride by wire system of the bike and hence makes it possible to integrate functions such as ride modes and cruise control.

The rider has the option to choose between two modes- Manual and Automatic or D and D+.

In the manual mode, the rider can select a higher or lower gear by using the + and - buttons on the switch cube . Yamaha says that the system is faster than conventional quickshifters and leaves the rider free to focus on the scenarios that lies ahead, say while entering a corner.

In D and D+, the system shifts up and down the gears automatically, with the latter used for more sporty and spirited riding.

In the future, Yamaha may also introduce the system in models like the Tracer 9 GT+
