The National Highway Transport Safety Administration is planning to recall about 24,000 BMW motorcycles because of a possible fuel leak. The motorcycles affected are the R-Series which have been manufactured between 2005 and 2008.
The agency decided to investigate this issue after they got 28 complaints and also found some reports online of cracks in the fuel pump housing. However, there is still no mention of any accident. One of the complainants mentioned that his left leg was soaked with fuel when he arrived at his destination. He found a leak in the fuel pump housing.
Since BMW Motorrad has gone into business only recently, the recall does not affect any of the motorcycles sold officially in India.
