Norton Superlight unveiled in UK

- Design inspired by Norton V4.

- Powered by a 650cc, parallel-twin engine.

- Likely to be used in the Isle of Man TT race.

British manufacturer Norton has unveiled a new supersport motorcycle at the Motorcycle Live show in UK. Christened the Superlight, the bike is based on the scrambler-styled Atlas that the manufacturer unveiled about a week ago.

It uses a twin-tube frame with a 650cc, parallel-twin engine as a stressed member. This unit produces 105bhp and 75Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed transmission and quickshifter. The bike is also offered with an optional titanium exhaust that bumps up the power by 6bhp. It also reduces 6kg from the Superlight’s 180kg kerb weight.

Norton has equipped the bike with three ride modes; Road, Sport, and Pro-Race along with ABS, traction control, wheelie control, launch control and a six-axis IMU. It also gets a seven-inch full-colour TFT instrument cluster that displays all vital information. The Superlight uses fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension and steering damper along with a Brembo braking setup on both ends.

Now, the design of the Superlight is similar to its bigger sibling, the Norton V4 and its bodywork is constructed entirely from carbon fibre. The bike rides on 17-inch carbon fibre wheels sourced from BST. Norton has priced the bike at GBP 19,950 (Rs 18.3 lakhs) in the UK. It will compete in the Lightweight class of the iconic Isle of Man TT race with the Superlight for 2019.

Will the Norton Superlight arrive in India? It definitely will. We can expect the bike to retail in Motoroyale showrooms sometime next year.
