-Updated KTM Super Duke R spotted in Europe
-Gets cosmetic as well as engineering upgrades
-Likely to be unveiled at the 2019 EICMA
KTM has been spotted testing the new 1290 Super Duke R in Europe. The Austrian manufacturer’s updated flagship streetfighter motorcycle will get a refreshed design as well as adjustments to its mechanical bits.
The current KTM 1290 Super Duke 1290’s design has been somewhat similar since its inception in 2014. So, it looks like KTM has gone back to the drawing board and revamped the design of the new Super Duke R. The tank shrouds are sharper and while the fuel tank still has broad shoulder lines, it looks leaner. At the front is the signature split LED headlamp that hasn’t been changed but is placed slightly higher than the current model.
Apart from this, the most noticeable update is the completely redesigned tubular trellis frame. The 1290 Super Duke R’s famous exposed rear sub-frame has also been redesigned and is well, not exposed anymore. Furthermore, the split in the stepped seat is now more pronounced. It also gets a new swingarm which holds on to simpler five-spoke wheel design in place of the 10-spoke wheels on the current model.
While there are no details about the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R’s engine, we can expect the manufacturer to tweak the unit too. Speaking of which, KTM’s need for compactness can also be seen in the new design of the exhaust pipes and the exhaust canister. As for braking hardware, the bike continues to use Brembo callipers on both ends. The upside down front forks look similar to the current model however the rear monoshock is placed slightly forward and lower.
The new 1290 Super Duke R also sports restyled switchgear that looks even more premium along with a completely new digital instrument cluster. In terms of electronics package, the current 1290 Super Duke R sports a stability control system, cornering ABS, cruise control, traction control along with three rider modes that include a supermoto mode. KTM offers a quick shifter as optional accessory although we expect the new 1290 Super Duke R to get it as standard.
KTM is expected to unveil the new 1290 Super Duke R at the upcoming 2019 EICMA in Italy. But would it come to India? Well, not before KTM stops teasing us with the arrival of the 390 Adventure, 790 Duke and the 790 Adventure too if we’re being optimistic.
