Yamaha unveils electric scooter with removable batteries

- Yamaha unveils EC-05

- Features removable batteries

- Co-developed with Gogoro

Yamaha has just unveiled its new electric scooter which goes by the name EC-05. This scooter’s main USP is the removable batteries.

Developed with Taiwanese e-scooter maker Gogoro, the EC-5 has been developed to cater to the growing needs of clean energy vehicle. The design elements have been taken care of by Yamaha, whereas the mechanical bits like powertrain and battery technology have been developed by Gogoro. The official technical specifications haven’t been revealed yet but this scooter is believed to have a top speed of 90kmph with a range of almost 100kms.

The EC-05 will only be available in Taiwan has Gogoro has more than 1000 battery exchange stations in the country. The idea was to develop a scooter that could make use of this vast battery exchange network.

The EC-05 won’t come to India as Yamaha’s Indian arm is working on an all new electric scooter for the Indian market. This scooter is likely to make its debut in the next 2-3 years. However, it’s still not confirmed where the Japanese brand is working on a pure electric scooter or a scooter with removable batteries. Only time will tell us.
