Suzuki India contemplating an entry-level adventure bike

- Suzuki small ADV likely to be launched in India

- Could use the new 250cc single-cylinder engine

After developing fully-faired (Gixxer SF), a streetfighter (Gixxer) and a cruiser (Intruder) for the Indian market, Suzuki is now contemplating making its presence felt in a new segment – adventure.

According to our sources, the company believes that there’s a good market for entry-level adventure motorcycles in the country. In fact, there’s a global appeal for small ADVs as well. This is why a lot of brands are developing entry-level adventure bikes.

The Japanese maker is planning to use the 250cc single-cylinder platform for the upcoming ADV. The newly developed 250cc is quite potent and makes a perfect fit for an ADV. However, the bike is likely to get a new subframe and long travel suspension. There might be revision in the overall gearing as well.

In terms of styling, Suzuki is likely to design it around the V-Strom range. In fact, a lot of design will resemble the V-Strom 250 – but the Indian model will be less bulky and lighter. While major design elements will be done for the Indian market, the company wants the bike to look like a global product, as it has plans to export it to other markets.

This Suzuki ADV development is in early stage, and we think it could make its India debut only post 2021. This bike will be made in India, but designed and developed in Japan with input from the Indian team.
