Keeping the product portfolio updated is crucial for any manufacturer in the market. Staying true to that policy, BMW Motorrad India has announced the launch of the all-new R 1250 R and R 1250 RT Pro models in India. Priced at Rs 15.85 lakh and 22.50 lakh, respectively, both motorcycles are successors to their corresponding models in the company’s line-up. Like other models, the motorcycles will be brought to India by the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. The bike maker has started accepting bookings for the new bikes through its dealership network commencing from today.

Starting with the naked streetfighter, the all-new R 1250 R continues to follow the classic lines of a motorcycle. Body panels like the front mudguard, front spoiler, tank side trim and rear side panels have undergone a subtle body finish. Besides that, the bike comes with new model inscriptions as well as a black seat with embossment on the pillion seat. BMW is offering the R 1250 R in a premium shade of Pollux metallic matt livery.

On the other hand, the R 1250 RT is a hardcore touring motorcycle from the German bike maker. The motorcycle has been revised with subtle design updates to ensure an engaging presence. BMW is offering the tourer with two paint scheme that comprise of a unique metallic effect adding to the exclusivity of the motorcycle - Blue Planet Metallic and Sparkling Storm Metallic. Besides that, BMW has included chrome elements into the design of the motorcycle at the handlebar weights and windshield trim adding a luxurious element to the bike’s character. Buyers can also opt for a brown coloured seat which adds a dash in individualism.

In terms of mechanicals, both motorcycles are similarly specced. They are powered by a monstrous two-cylinder Boxer-type engine that displaces 1254cc. The motor is rated to produce a maximum power output of 132bhp at 7,750 rpm and peak torque output of 143Nm at 6,250rpm. The engine is equipped with BMW’s ShiftCam technology that was introduced with the new S 1000 RR.

The bikes further get two riding modes, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS Pro) even while cornering and a set-off assistant Hill Start Control, all as standard equipment. Besides that, for the touring aficionados, the R 1250 RT comes with seat heating, central locking system, tyre pressure control and anti-theft alarm system, which adds to the riding comfort and safety. In the infotainment department, the R 1250 R comes equipped with a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen while the R 1250 RT features a larger 5.7-inch screen that is accompanied by an analogue speedometer and rpm meter. The units can be operated with BMW Motorrad multi-controller, which allows the rider to easily access the vehicle and connectivity functions. Besides that, the rider can also control phone and media functions like making calls, changing the music on the go and also practice-oriented arrow navigation.

In the Indian market, the R 1250 R competes against the Honda CB1000R+, Kawasaki Z1000 and Z900 RS. Meanwhile, the R 1250 RT goes up against the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R, Indian Chief Classic and Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic in terms of price.
