Damon e-bike with 322kmph top speed can change ergonomics on the go

- Damon Hypersport unveiled at CES 2020 in Las Vegas

- Gets a maximum battery range of 483km and a top speed of 322kmph

- Will be initially available only in the US from 2021

Damon Motorcycles, a Canada-based electric two-wheeler start-up, has unveiled its first high-performance electric sportsbike, the HyperSport. The company took to the stage of CES 2020 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas to reveal its first product.

While the Damon Hypersport is impressive in terms of looks, features and performance figures, the talking point of the e-bike is its capability to automatically change the ergonomics on the go. It comes with two settings namely Commuter and Sport, and selecting one of them makes changes in its seat height and the position of footpegs and handlebar. The former offers an upright riding position with high-set handlebar and forward-set foot pegs while the latter shifts the handlebar downwards and footpegs rearwards for a sporty riding stance.

In terms of performance, the Hypersport is on par with petrol-powered litre-class superbikes. With a power rating of 200bhp and 200Nm of peak torque, the electric bike can accelerate from 0-100kmph in under three seconds. Moreover, it is claimed to achieve a top speed of as much as 322kmph! Powering the motorcycle is a 20kWh liquid-cooled battery pack which can be fully-charged in three hours. As for its range, while it can cover a distance of about 322km on the highway, the city range is rated at 483km.

As ballistic as it sounds in terms of performance, the Hypersport is equally modern on the feature front. The motorcycle incorporates a ‘CoPilot’ 360-degree system which is a combination of radar sensors and cameras. It consistently monitors the speed, direction and velocity of the surrounding vehicles on the road in order to predict collisions and alert the rider about the same.

Damon will introduce the Hypersport in two variants including HS and Premier. The latter will be a higher-spec version with Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes and carbon-fibre single-sided swingarm. It will be limited to 25 units. Initially, the company will introduce the motorcycle only in the US starting from 2021, with the HS priced at $24,995 (around Rs 18 lakhs) and the Premier pegged at $40,000 (around Rs 29 lakhs).
