Xiaomi A1 electric moped launched; gets front camera and Bluetooth touchscreen display

- Xiaomi A1 electric moped launched in China

- Comes in a standard and Pro variant

- Weighs 55kgs and has a top speed of 25kmph

Xiaomi is known to make affordable and feature-packed products for the masses with its Mi and Redmi smartphones being highly popular across the globe. However, the company keeps rolling out other modern innovations as well, and the latest one is the affordable, low-speed, pedal-bearing electric moped christened the A1.

The A1 brand name might sound familiar as it is also shared by another Xiaomi product, the Mi A1 smartphone. Similar to its mobile phones, Xiaomi’s A1 e-moped is also priced on the affordable side. Available in two variants only in China as of now, the standard trim costs 2,999 yuan (Rs 31,685) while the Pro model is pegged at 3,999 yuan (Rs 52,816). Both models differ in terms of battery specs and features.

Action

It is clear from the images that the A1 is a profoundly compact two-wheeler with minimal body panels. Based on an underbone chassis, it rides on 16-inch wheels with basic suspension setup. The front end comprises of a small apron housing LED headlamp and the side panels hide the battery setup under the single seat. Legs rest on a cramped footboard and the narrow handlebar is close to the rider. While being compact, it is also light on the weight aspect, tipping the scales at a mere 55kgs.

Instrument cluster

Typical of a Xiaomi product, the A1 also comes loaded with fancy gizmos. To start with, the cockpit is dominated by a 6.8-inch touchscreen display which is Bluetooth-enabled. This dash gets 4G connection and gives access to satellite navigation while showing other basic data. Another interesting bit is a 1080p camera at the front which can record a 90 minute video. An additional feature available in the Pro model is XiaoAi (Xiaomi’s voice assistance) for carrying out different functions through voice commands.

Xiaomi has equipped the A1 standard with a 768Wh battery pack which is claimed to deliver a range of 60km. Meanwhile, the Pro variant has an extra 10km of range as it incorporates a larger 960Wh battery. Both models get removable batteries for safe and easy charging while propelling the A1 is a 48V electric system. The top speed is limited to 25kmph for both models.

Left Side View

For the A1 e-moped, Xiaomi has utilised its crowd funding platform Youpin while the manufacturing process is taken care of by 70mai which is a sub-brand of Xiaomi. While the A1 is currently available only in China, it is likely to be introduced in other markets as well. Looking at the growing popularity of electric two-wheelers in India, Xiaomi might also bring it to our shores in the near future.
