Honda is reportedly working on a higher displacement version of its Rebel cruiser series. A report suggests that the new Honda Rebel 1100 will share its motor with the new Africa Twin CRF1100L. Currently, the biggest displacement Rebel-series product is the 500cc model that’s already available in the international markets.
The latest iteration of the Africa Twin adventure tourer uses a 1,084cc, parallel-twin cylinder motor that produces 102bhp of peak power at 7,500rpm and 105Nm of maximum torque at 6,250rpm. The engine Africa Twin is available with two gearbox options – six-speed manual and DCT. The Rebel 1100 may feature similar numbers and gearbox options.
Apart from the engine, the Rebel 1100 may also benefit from the electronics package of the Africa Twin. If that happens, the cruiser motorcycle will pack safety features such as cornering ABS and lean-sensitive traction control system.
The styling is not likely to change, and the Rebel 1100 may carry the design of the existing models. The Rebel 1100 will help Honda compete against brands like Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles in the cruiser motorcycle segment. The company is yet to make any comments about the 1100cc version of the Rebel.
