Leaked patent images have revealed Honda’s new, road-focused ADV tourer. The patents were filed with the European Intellectual Property Office.
Honda already has an ADV motorcycle, the Africa Twin CRF1100L, that targets serious off-roaders. The new, inline four-cylinder powered product, on the other hand, will compete against the likes of the BMW S 1000 XR, Ducati Multistrada 1260, upcoming Multistrada V4 and the Kawasaki Versys 1000.
The road-biased character of the upcoming Honda ADV tourer is emphasised by the 17-inch alloy wheels on both ends. A similar setup is also used by the rival brands on their respective motorcycles mentioned above. The Honda ADV tourer will use a semi-fairing design. The feature list should include full-LED lighting, an adjustable windscreen and a Bluetooth-compatible colour-TFT display.
The hardware that’s visible through the leaked patent images includes inverted front forks, rear mono-shock, dual discs at the front, a single rotor at the back and a single-sided swingarm. The motorcycle should come equipped with comprehensive electronic rider aids.
The details about the displacement are scarce, but we could see a litre-class motor on the upcoming ADV tourer. The motorcycle may take a while before it makes its public debut, and we could see the vehicle, at least in prototype form, in 2021.
