5 things you need to know about Honda NSF250R

Honda Racing India recently announced a comprehensive plan for its motorsports division and the main highlight is the new NSF250R Talent Cup. This will be organized as a special category of race in which a group of eight riders, who were selected from last year’s Honda Talent Hunt, will be competing against each other astride the NSF250R Moto3 machine. Being a pure race bike, the NSF250R is way different than the standard road-going motorcycles and we bring you five interesting facts about it.

Incredible power to weight ratio

The Honda NSF250R is propelled by a 249.3cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC motor. While the displacement might not sound astounding, the power figures will surely do as it produces 47bhp and 28Nm. If that’s not enough, the feather light weight of 84kg gives the NSF250R an incredible power-to-weight ratio of 559.52 bhp/tonne! All these numbers are impressive enough to make it an insanely fast motorcycle on the race track.

Has won four Moto3 titles

Replacing the Honda NS125R, the NSF250R was introduced in the Moto3 competition in 2012. Astride this motorcycle, the Honda racers have won four world championships in the last five years. The first win was registered in the constructor’s title by Alex Marquez in 2015 who on went to clinch more titles in the consecutive years along with his team mate Danny Kent.

Developed by HRC

The NSF250R is developed by HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) which is the company’s international racing division. The cycle parts and engine of the motorcycle are brought to India from HRC Japan while the parts which would need to be replaced, such as fairing, have been locally sourced.

Features premium components

The Honda Moto3 race bike is underpinned by an aluminum twin tube frame which is suspended by upside down forks at the front and a pro-link monoshock at the rear, both being fully-adjustable. Braking is handled by a hydraulic 296mm disc at the front and a 186mm disc at the rear with Nissin calipers. Moreover, the 17-inch wheels of the motorcycle are shod with Dunlop racing slicks.

Not accessible to everyone

The Honda NSF250R motorcycle and its dedicated talent cup will act as a stepping stone for the riders to enter into the world of Moto3 racing. The company has selected a bunch of eight riders for this competition and, based on their performance, a few of them will be further trained for Asia and international level competitions. That means, apart from the selected riders, other wouldn’t have access to ride the Honda NSF250R.
