- Becomes first Indian to win a world title in motorsports

- Also secured the second position in the FIM Junior category

Indian off-road racer Aishwarya Pissay has inked her name in the history books by becoming the first Indian ever to win a FIM World Cup title in the Women’s category in the final round of the championship.

The 23-year old hailing from Bengaluru also secured the second position in the FIM Junior category upon the conclusion of the four-round championship. Pissay had won the first round held in Dubai followed by a third place win in Portugal. The next round saw her clinching the fifth position in Spain followed by a fourth position win in Hungary. By the end of the championship, Aishwarya bagged a total of 65 points, just four more than Portugal’s Rita Viera in the overall standings for women. On the other hand, in the Junior category, Aishwarya had to settle for the second position with 46 points, which was led by Tomas de Gavardo from Chile with 60 points.

In the final fourth round of the championship, Aishwarya faced tough competition from Rita Viera and managed to secure a fourth-place finish with 13 points, right behind Viera garnering 16 points.

Commenting on the new achievement, Aishwarya Pissay said ”It’s absolutely overwhelming. I am out of words. After what happened last year, my first international season, when I crashed in Spain Baja and suffered career-threatening injuries, to come out and win the championship, is a great feeling.”

“It's an honour to be the first athlete to bring home a World Championship and put India on the Map of International Motorsports. I believe this gives hope to many budding racers to take the sport seriously.” she further added.
