Ampere Electric has begun deliveries of the Nexus electric scooter. The company will carry out deliveries in a phased manner starting from Bengaluru. The EV was launched in April 2024 and is the company’s premium offering.
The Ampere Nexus is based on a new platform and features a simple yet functional design that should appeal to the family scooter buyer. The scooter is available in two variants- EX and ST. The ST is the top spec variant and gets features like a 7-inch touchscreen, TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity.
The scooter is powered by a 4kW electric motor that can propel it to a top speed of 93kmph in 'Power' mode. Switch to City mode and the top speed of the scooter is limited to 63kmph. There’s a Eco mode as well to maximise range but it also limits the top speed of the scooter to 42kmph. In addition to these three modes, there is a Limp Home mode which kicks in when the battery percentage drops below 20 percent. The Ampere Nexus also gets a reverse mode for added convenience.
As for the battery specifications, it has a 3kWh, IP67 rated battery which is of the LFP type and has a certified range of 136km. Ampere claims that it takes a little over three hours to charge.
Under the neatly designed bodywork, there’s a new underbone chassis that is suspended by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. The scooter rides on 12-inch alloy wheels while braking duties will be taken care of by a disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear.
The Nexus was launched at an introductory price of Rs 1.10 lakh for EX version and Rs 1.20 lakh for the ST version. In terms of competition, the scooter goes up against the TVS iQube, the Ola S1 range and the newly launched Ather Rizta.
