Ampere Electric is all set to launch its new, premium scooter tomorrow. It is codenamed NXG and is likely to be called the Ampere Nexus. This electric scooter will be positioned as the Ampere’s premium offering in the market. Here is what we can expect.
Conservative design
The Ampere Nexus is targeted at the family scooter buyer, someone who isn’t looking for a sporty and flamboyant scooter. Instead they are looking for a scooter that looks good and yet is functional. A look at the spy shots of test mules confirms a neat and simple design, be it the front apron, the side panels or the tail section. There should be a few crease lines here and there to enhance the appearance but on the whole the scooter should look inoffensive.
The EV appears to be large, with a long seat to accommodate two adults and enough legroom on the floorboard for the rider to place their feet on.
New chassis
Under the fresh design is a new underbone chassis that is suspended by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. The scooter rides on 12-inch alloy wheels while braking duties will be taken care of by a disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear. This is the first Ampere scooter to receive a disc brake.
Features
Since Ampere is positioning this scooter as their new premium offering, there are a number of features that are expected on a scooter of this kind. It has all-LED lights and a new colour, TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. Once the rider pairs their phone with the console, they can access incoming call and message information on the dash. It might also get turn-by-turn navigation which is a useful feature these days.
Motor and battery
Ampere has been tight lipped about details of the motor and battery, however, word is that it will have a mid-mounted electric motor and a battery that has a range of 120km.
Price
Ampere is expected to price electric scooter competitively in light of competition like the TVS iQube and the Ather Rizta. It should be priced between the Rs 1.2 to 1.5 lakh, ex-showroom , range.
