Ashish Raorane has pulled up his socks to compete in the FIM Baja Rally World Championship which is set to take place in Aragon, Spain. Notably, Ashish is India’s only privateer Rally racer who will represent our country at the international rally championship. He has successfully completed the first two rounds of the competition.
The first round of the 2019 FIM Baja World Cup, which was held in Dubai, saw Ashish finishing 22nd overall which was followed by the Portugal round where the Indian rider clinched the 27th spot overall. Now, with the third round of the international rally set to take place this month, Ashish aspires to be the first Indian to complete the Baja championship series. Currently, Ashish is ranked 14th in the world championship. The rider is aiming to continue his Baja journey to Hungary, and then on to the Africa Eco Rally in 2020. On the basis of all the experience gained through these rallies, Ashish intends to showcase his mettle at the Dakar 2021.
Baja Aragon rally was incepted in 1983 and even after 36 years now, it is organized in all its glory. The competition takes inspiration from the Dakar which is considered as the most grueling of all rallies held across the globe. The Baja Aragon rally finds its way through 1000km route which passes through a semi-deserted area called Monegros. Treading their way through the exhilarating terrain, the riders face high temperatures and dense dust at the Baja Aragon.
