Maharashtra Government recently announced its new electric vehicle policy. The government will subsidise the first 1,00,000 electric two-wheelers who would receive an incentive of Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity. The government will also give an additional Rs 5,000 incentive for buyers who purchase an electric vehicle before 31 December, 2021. Moreover, the road tax and registration costs for electric vehicles will be waived off. The new policy aims to boost the sales of electric two-wheelers in the state.
Speaking about the new policy, Tarun Mehta, CEO and Co-founder, Ather Energy, said that the incentives offered for both the demand and supply side will accelerate the adoption and the manufacturing of EVs in the country.
Mehta also confirmed the company’s plans to expand into the state. Ather Energy, which currently operates in Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra, plans to enter Nashik and Nagpur soon. The company also plans to expand its existing network within Mumbai and Pune. Ather Energy aims to expand to a total of 27 cities in 2021.
The company currently offers two products in India, 450 Plus and 450X. The Ather 450 Plus is available at Rs 1,23,231 while the Ather 450X has been listed at Rs 1,42,241 in Mumbai (exclusive of insurance, road tax and registration).
