Ather Energy will set up its second manufacturing facility in Hosur to cater to the growing demand for its electric scooters, the 450X and 450 Plus. This new facility will enable the Bangalore-based two-wheeler company to manufacture 4,00,000 units per annum as against its current capacity of 1,20,000 units. This new facility will also focus on lithium-ion battery manufacturing.
Speaking about this new manufacturing facility, Tarun Mehta, Co-Founder & CEO, Ather Energy, said that the electric vehicle demand has been increasing across the country. Mehta further added that the company’s experience centres are scaling up rapidly, and its retail footprint is set to grow by six times in the coming quarters. Thus, within just ten months of opening its current facility, the company is already operating at full capacity. The second plant will be ready for 2022.
Ather Energy said in its press announcement that it has been registering 20 per cent month-on-month sales growth since November 2020. The company has also recorded a three times increase in walk-ins, web inquiries and test rides from April-October 2021 and four times growth in vehicle booking in the period.
The company has committed to invest Rs 650 crore in the next five years to enhance operational efficiency and production capacity. It plans to strengthen its retail operations by expanding to new markets. Ather Energy further aims to add around 150 Experience Centers in 100 cities by March 2023.
