- Likely to get more space and a different design
- Could use the same hardware as the current 450
- Currently under early-stage development
Ather Energy could be working on a new family scooter. While the brand already has three different variants in its 450 electric scooter lineup, all of them are oriented towards youth and appear quite sporty too. Moreover, the dimensions and storage space are on the smaller side which could be revised with a new and comparatively larger scooter. This would help the brand target a new set of buyers too that are looking for practicality over performance and sharp appearance.
The upcoming Ather EV could rival the TVS iQube as the latter is one the closest emulation of an ICE scooter in various aspects like the design, handling and overall usability. So, you can expect the Ather scooter to be slightly more mature in terms of design and get more storage space too compared to the current 450S and 450X. That said, the brand could carry over the features, battery, motor and hardware from its current offerings to the upcoming model.
As of now, Ather has the 450S in a single variant and the 450X in two trims. Powering the 450S is a 2.9kWh battery mated to a 5.4kW (peak power) motor. The setup offers a maximum range of 115km and a top speed of 90kmph. Then, the 450X gets a couple of battery options: 2.9kWh and 3.7kWh. The smaller unit can do 111km and the larger battery gets 150km of range. However, both are powered by a 6.4kW motor only.
Apart from that, Ather is also working on a motorcycle and it could be launched within the next five years. The brand has already expressed its interest in electric motorcycles and is likely to target the commuter segment only as it contributes a majority chunk.
