Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based startup plans to take its first electric scooter – the S340 – to production line this December.
The top honcho of the company revealed that it will take anywhere between four to six months between assembling the first scooter in their new plant and rolling out the finished product in the market. The S340 was supposed to be launched last year, however, the plan was delayed due to operational issues.
Backed by the Flipkart founders and Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy's upcoming product plans to change the way EV two-wheelers are perceived in India. Other than a good looking design, the S340 also offers a range of 60km and a top speed of 72kmph. It takes one hour to achieve 80 per cent charge using the fast charging mode. The electric scooter’s battery pack claims a life cycle of 50,000km and a life span of 5 to 6 years.
Most of the components for the S340 has been designed from ground up. In fact, the company itself created moulds for these parts and plans to ship it to its vendors. These vendors will deliver the finished components on a scale ready for assembly-line manufacturing. Other than the lithium ion cells, all the components are being made in India. The company is also talking to various malls, offices and tech parks to provide charging infrastructure.
