-Launch delayed by a month
-India’s first production CNG bike
The launch of the highly anticipated Bajaj CNG bike has been delayed. The bike was supposed to be launched in the month of June but now there is word that the launch has been pushed to 17 July, 2024. Bajaj has not stated any reason for the delay in the launch.
The Bajaj CNG bike is expected to revolutionise commuting in India. It’ll be the first production motorcycle to feature a CNG and petrol dual-fuel setup. This should translate to an impressive range between fill ups. That said, the time taken to fill up CNG, especially in metros might be a challenge considering the long queue of vehicles that line up outside CNG pumps.
Nevertheless, the Bajaj CNG bike features impressive engineering to accommodate the ‘CNG tank’ as seen in the blueprints of the bike. Bajaj has managed to optimise space by placing the CNG tank along the length of the bike, and using a ‘sloper’ engine design. The specifications of the engine are still under wraps but word is that it could be a 125cc, commuter engine. The engine will be paired with a five-speed gearbox.
Bajaj is also likely to launch the CNG bike in two variants, one for the urban areas and a more rugged version for rural India. The latter will have a sump guard, knuckle guard and a handlebar brace.
The Bajaj CNG bike will have a lot riding on its shoulders and it’ll be interesting to see what it is like to ride and how customers respond to it. The bike is expected to be priced around Rs 80,000, ex-showroom.
