For 2018, Bajaj has injected the Discover 125 with a new lease of life. Positioned as a no-frills executive commuter bike, the Discover 125 shares the market space with Bajaj’s own premium commuter, the V12. We see how these two motorcycles stack up against each other –
Design
The Discover 125 sticks to a conservative design language. It might not look glamorous, but the design doesn’t offend anyone either. The tank is slightly sculpted and gets decals to give it a fresh look. The headlamp retains the familiar design, although the LED DRLs give it a modern touch. Even the instrument cluster has been updated and now integrates a digital display.
The V12 on the other hand, gets neo-retro styling. The chrome-rimmed headlamp and tail lamp, sculpted fuel tank and its bulky proportions make it stand out of a crowd. The instrument cluster is basic and offers just the bare minimum functionality. Both the motorcycles get an upright riding position to make them comfortable for daily commutes and over broken roads. However, the V12’s low seating and slightly raised handlebar might not suit everyone’s taste.
Engine and Cycle parts
Now both the bikes might get 124cc air-cooled single-cylinder DTS-i engines, but Bajaj claims that they are different in character. The Discover 125 also boasts of higher output, with 10.9bhp and 11Nm of torque. The V12 is marginally less powerful at 10.6bhp and 10.9Nm of torque.
Besides, the V12 is also 13 kilograms heavier than the Discover 125, tipping the scales at 133 kilograms. Both get five-speed transmissions. Both the bikes get conventional telescopic front forks and dual spring rear suspension. The V12 rides on 18-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels, while the Discover 125 gets 17-inch wheels at both ends.
Price
This is another area where the Discover 125 inches ahead of the V12. The Discover 125 retails at Rs 65,541 while the V12 will set you back by Rs 70,418. That is the price you pay for the premium look of the V12. Both the motorcycles are offered with an optional disc brake. While the Discover 125 disc variant costs Rs 68,708, the V12 disc retails at Rs 71,324. All prices are on-road, Mumbai.
