- Bajaj-KTM manufactures the one millionth bike
- KTM 390 Adventure was the milestone bike
- The Chakan factory makes Husqvarna bikes
Bajaj has achieved a significant milestone today. It rolled out the one millionth KTM motorcycle from its production line in Chakan.
The Pune-based manufacturer chose the 390 Adventure to celebrate this milestone. But the first bike launched in India from that production plant was the KTM 200 Duke in 2012. Since then, both brands have made a big difference in the Indian two-wheeler space as they launched a range of entry-level performance motorcycles.
While Bajaj and KTM were entirely focused on manufacturing the sub-400cc motorcycles in the country for India and the rest of the world, they tried to sell bigger capacity motorcycles like the 790 Duke via a completely knocked-down (CKD) route. However, that streetfighter's poor pricing and positioning meant it didn't set the sales charts on fire. In fact, they had to sell the last few units at great discounts.
Currently, the Chakan plant manufactures KTM and Husqvarna entry-level bikes. Although there have been plans to utilise the space for Gas Gas as well, there aren't any confirmed details on that front yet.
