Bajaj has recorded a nine per cent growth in domestic motorcycle sales, last month. The Pune-based manufacturer sold over 1.68 lakh motorcycles in June 2016 as compared to 1.54 lakh units it had managed in the corresponding period, last year.
While the domestic market has been kind to Bajaj, the company experienced a significant drop in export numbers in the last month. Bajaj shipped off 1.04 lakh motorcycles in June 2016 as compared to 1.32 lakh, dragging the overall growth into negative territory. The commercial vehicles department also experienced a similar trend, with the domestic market recording a 22 per cent growth and exports experiencing 20 per decline.
The Avenger 150 Street and the V15, thanks to their unique character and user-friendly ergonomics have become one of the highest-selling premium commuters in the Indian market. The CT100 on the other hand, which is the most affordable motorcycle in the country, has been capitalising on its lucrative price tag. These motorcycles, with cumulative sales of over 90,000 units, have played an important role in helping Bajaj retain its third position in the Indian two-wheeler industry.
