- New Sunny electric scooter under development
- Likely to be built on a new EV platform
- Could debut in late 2024
Bajaj is planning to revive another legendary scooter brand, the Sunny. A fully camouflaged electric scooter prototype was spotted testing around Pune.
These pictures show that the Pune-based company is planning to bring back the Sunny brand but in an EV format. The test mule was seen with camouflage, but the overall styling and the body panels clearly show a lot of resemblance to the Sunny – a 60cc two-stroke scooter sold in India for many years.
Currently, the Chetak is the only e-scooter that Bajaj sells in India. However, this particular scooter plays in the premium side of the segment. Thus, Bajaj could be looking to enter the sub-Rs. 1 lakh price bracket with this new scooter that is likely to get the Sunny tag.
The test mule was seen with a hub motor and the overall proportions are pretty compact and thin. The round headlamp and the cover are precisely like the ones seen on the older Sunny. Further, it looks like the company has developed a new e-scooter platform for this product. This new platform could have been co-developed with Yulu – a ride-sharing company in which Bajaj has a stake.
We are expecting this new e-scooter to make its global debut sometime next year. It is likely to be priced below Rs. 1 lakh and will come with a decent battery size for city use only.
