- Bajaj and KTM to share the newly developed platform
- Launch details unavailable yet
Official documents indicate that the common 48-volt electric two-wheeler platform from Bajaj Auto and KTM is planned to enter serial production in India in 2022. The talks of this co-developed platform have been doing rounds for a few years, but now it seems that the vehicle is close to making its debut.
In December 2021, Bajaj Auto had announced establishing a new manufacturing unit for electric vehicles in India that will be ready to roll out electric two-wheelers for domestic and export markets by June 2022.
The Pune-based manufacturer has invested Rs 300 crore on this project. This factory, which is spread over half a million square feet area, will have an annual capacity of 5,00,000 electric vehicles per annum. This new facility will be located in the same area as the Bajaj Chetak’s production base in Akurdi.
Back in 2019, one of the top honchos had confirmed that the vehicle will be manufactured in India, and the production should begin at Bajaj’s factory in 2022. The two brands seem to be on schedule. The same document, which confirmed the production of this co-developed platform, also listed the E-Duke electric motorcycle and you can read all about it here.
