- Bajaj-Triumph bike launch delayed to 2023
- Prototypes are ready
- Could use new Pulsar’s engine
Bajaj and Triumph have decided to push the launch of its first motorcycle - a 200cc-250cc cruiser to 2023. Both the companies had previously planned to launch this bike in 2022.But the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic delayed this important launch.
According to one of the top honchos of the company, the development of this motorcycle has reached an advanced stage. In fact, the prototypes of the bike are ready as well, however, due to the Delta variant of COVID-19, there were some travel restrictions between UK and India. As a result, Triumph engineers couldn’t come to India and see and work on these prototypes as planned. A delay of around 6-9 months has pushed this launch to the end of FY2023. So there’s a chance that this cruiser could be launched in 2024. As of now, there are hardly any details on this product, but it is expected to go against some of the new Royal Enfields.
Bajaj is in the process of developing a new Pulsar 250cc platform. In fact, we spotted some prototypes a few weeks ago. This new motorcycle will get an air-cooled engine with an oil-cooler provision. So there’s a possibility that his new Triumph could also be powered by a similar engine. This would help both the companies keep development costs in check.
We can expect more details on this alliance in the near future. But as of now, the most affordable Triumph is still a few years away.
