Italian bike maker, Bimota, has stopped production at its factory in Rimini, Italy. A brainchild of legendary motorcycle designer Massimo Tamburini, Bimota had been plagued by financial troubles since the past few years.
The term Bimota was coined by the names of the founding fathers of the brand - Valerio Bianchi, Giuseppe Morri and Massimo Tamburini. Set up in 1973, Bimota has always been a niche bike maker, targeted at an uber-rich audience. It had also been involved in circuit racing during its early years, with the production bikes deriving a big chunk of technology from their racing counterparts. They featured highly radical frames and cycle parts and beautiful bodywork to give them an exotic appeal.
However, a combination of events during the turn of millennium resulted in the brand going bankrupt. Since then, Bimota has been changing hands, rolling out more radical motorcycles and going bankrupt over and over again. As of now, the brand has stopped producing motorcycles at its facility in Italy, though it claims to have piled up the spare parts of the latest Bimota models, including the BB3. Nevertheless, considering its previous track record, we can expect Bimota to find new investors.
