-Blacksmith B2 likely to be launched in India next year
-Gets a cruiser-inspired styling
-To have a claimed top speed of 120kmph
Blacksmith Electric, a Chennai-based start-up has released teaser images of its first product, an electric motorcycle christened the B2.
The design of the B2 seems to be inspired by power-cruiser motorcycles. It gets a straight handlebar, long tank, single-piece seat, a tall-windscreen and chrome mirrors. The teaser images also reveal that the Blacksmith B2 will sport a low-slung, rectangular headlamp with LED projectors and DRLs and a sleek LED tail lamp at the rear. Moreover, the B2 is likely to feature a tank mounted digital instrument display along with a handlebar-mounted unit.
In terms of specifications, the company has revealed that the B2 will use a 5KW motor and a ‘high energy density NMC battery’ that would produce 96Nm of torque. The Blacksmith B2 is claimed to achieve a top speed of 120kmph and offer a range of 120km on a single battery and 240km on an optional dual-battery pack. While full details are yet to be revealed, the electric motorcycle will get an Artificial Intelligence System similar to the recently launched Revolt RV400.
Blacksmith Electric has been researching about the electric platform since 2003 and has tested their latest 3rd generation prototype for about 7000kms. The company also claims to be the only company in India to own the patent for battery swap technology and this is even before Tesla launched its cars. As for the B2 electric motorcycle, Blacksmith Electric is likely to launch the production version in India sometime in 2020.
