- Teased on BMW’s social media channels
- Globally unveiled in July last year
- India launch not confirmed yet
BMW Motorrad will be the first premium two-wheeler manufacturer to hop on the electric bandwagon in India. The company has teased the CE04 electric scooter on its social media channels mentioning that its official India unveil will take place tomorrow, 10 December.
The BMW CE04 was globally unveiled in July last year. Typical of a BMW, it is decked up with advanced features including a large 10.25-inch, high-resolution TFT instrument cluster with integrated maps and smartphone connectivity. Moreover, just like a high-end motorcycle, traction control and three riding modes (Eco, Road, and Rain) are also a part of the package.
Powering the CE04 is an 8.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is claimed to deliver a range of 130km. While the charging time is slightly over four hours through a 2.3kW charger, a fast charger juices it up completely within an hour and 40 minutes. As for the propulsion motor, this 15kW unit can produce a maximum output of nearly 41bhp which is as good as a KTM 390 Duke. Then, the e-scooter can do a zero to 50kmph sprint in 2.6 seconds and can attain a top speed of 120kmph.
The design of the CE04 is one of its main highlights as it looks profoundly futuristic. It boasts a front-heavy styling with a humongous front apron comprising a lot of angular cuts and creases. The wheelbase is extremely long and the rear section has no panels apart from the tyre hugger and number plate holder.
BMW will perhaps gauge the audience’s response to the CE04 e-scooter before deciding whether to launch it in India. Even if it comes to our shores, it will arrive as a CBU (completely built unit) offering and the price will be exorbitant.
