TVS Motor Company’s president and CEO, KN Radhakrishnan, has revealed that the production and export of the BMW G310 R has already commenced.
The G310 R marks BMW Motorrad’s foray into the rapidly growing entry-level streetfighter segment. The motorcycle has currently been launched in select countries in Europe. In the UK, the G310 R has been priced at GBP 4,290 (Rs 3.5 lakh) making it more affordable than its rivals - the KTM 390 Duke, Kawasaki Z300 and the Yamaha MT-03.
The BMW G310 R made its Indian debut at the Auto Expo, last year, though the company stopped short of launching it in India. While TVS will also have its own supersports version of this G310 R called the Akula, the BMW G310 R is expected to be launched in India in the second half of this year. BMW Motorrad has been focussing on setting up its own dealership network in India, which has delayed its launch plans. Rumours also suggest that BMW Motorrad delayed the launch over quality issues of the production bikes, though these problems seem to have been fixed now.
