BMW Motorrad has launched the HP4 Race in India at Rs 85 lakhs (ex-showroom). The most performance-focussed BMW Motorrad production bike till date, the HP4 Race has been built in a limited run of just 750 units, of which only a handful will be sold in India.
The HP4 Race is a homolgation special, hand-built by a special team in Berlin, Germany. Featuring carbon-fibre frame and wheels, aluminium fuel tank and titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, the HP4 Race is 30 kilograms lighter than the standard S 1000 RR. It offers eight-stage adjustment for the footpegs and a three-stage seat height adjustment to suit the rider's profile. It even gets a quick-release front wheel to enable quick wheel change.
Powering the HP4 Race is the same 999cc inline-four engine as the S 10000 RR, albeit with a higher output of 215bhp and 120Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a reverse-pattern six-speed transmission with a bi-directional quickshifter. Suspension setup consists of fully-adjustable FGR300 forks up front and an TTX 36 GP monoshock at the reat, both sourced from Ohlins. A race-spec Ohlins steering damper is also standard. Braking is taken care of Brembo units. Electronics includes 15-level traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, launch control and even a pit lane speed limiter.
While the price tag might seem astronomical, it looks like a steal as compared to Ducati's flagship, the 1299 Superleggera, which was launched in India at Rs 1.12 crore (ex-showroom). Mind you, the HP4 Race is not street-legal, which means you will be able to ride it only at a race track.
