Along with the M 1000 RR, BMW also recently unveiled the M 1000 R. The latest litre-class streetfighter from the Bavarian manufacturer packs a host of advanced features over the standard S 1000 R. Let’s take a close look at it from these images.
The M 1000 R looks fairly identical to the S model on the styling front. However, the new aerodynamic appendages give the bike a beefier look. The black, blue, and red paint scheme too bumps up the aesthetic quotient of the M 1000 R. The LED headlight, wide handlebar with bar end mirrors, and carbon fibre parts make for an impressive overall package.
Powering the M 1000 R is a 999cc inline four-cylinder engine with BMW Shiftcam. The motor’s output is rated at 205bhp and 112Nm and it’s mated to a six-speed gearbox.
On the feature front, the M 1000 R is loaded with a TFT screen to access various rider aids like ride mods (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race and Race Pro), ABS, Pit Lane limiter, launch control, traction control, brake control, hill control, shift assist, and slide control.
BMW has equipped the M 1000 R with 45mm USD front forks and a monoshock. Both get preload, rebound and compression adjustability.
Meanwhile, the braking hardware consists of 320mm dual front discs and a single 220mm rear disc with ABS. The setup is mounted on aluminum forged wheels for the standard model and Carbon wheels for the M model. Both are wrapped in 120/70 front and 200/55 rear tyres.
The M 1000 R gets a 16.2-litre fuel tank and tips the scale at 198kg (fully loaded). That said, the addition of carbon fibre parts with the M trim could help reduce the overall weight a little.
BMW is yet to launch the bike in India but in the USA, the standard model is priced at USD 21,345 (approximately Rs 17.66 lakh sans taxes) and the M trim costs USD 26,435 (approximately Rs 21.87 lakh sans taxes). However, you can expect the BMW M 1000 R to retail close to Rs 35 lakh once launched in India.
