- BMW Motorrad sales grew by 6.7 per cent in the calendar year 2020
- The company sold 2,563 motorcycles last year
- G 310 R and G 310 GS contributed to over 80 per cent of sales
Despite the year 2020 being profoundly dreadful, BMW Motorrad thrived in India last calendar year, recording a sales growth of 6.7 per cent. What’s further commendable is that the German bike maker grew by as much as 51 per cent in the last quarter (October-December) of 2020 in India, as compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
BMW delivered 2,563 motorcycles last year. It’s worth noting that over 80 per cent of the company’s overall India sales were garnered by its entry-level offerings, the G 310 R and the G 310 GS. Both bikes were updated to comply with the new BS6 emission norms last year. And contrary to other two-wheelers got became expensive with the BS6 update, the G 310 siblings became more affordable. BMW has also bestowed these bikes with a bunch of new features and styling revisions, besides tweaking the engine for cleaner emissions.
The company also witnessed good response for bigger bikes like the R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure, F750 GS, F850 GS and the litre-class sportsbike, the S 1000 RR. Lastly, the brand also attributes this growth to its new financial services which played an important role in making it easier for its customers to own BMW Motorrad offerings.
