- Belongs to BMW’s heritage line-up
- Powered by a 109bhp, 1,107cc boxer-twin engine
- Competes against the Triumph Speed Twin
BMW Motorrad has launched the new R 12 nineT roadster offering in India with a price tag of Rs. 20.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It belongs to BMW’s heritage line-up of motorcycles and goes up against the Triumph Speed Twin in India.
One of the main highlights of the R 12 nineT is its quintessential retro design with a dash of uniqueness. It sports a boxy, aluminium tank, brushed and clear-coated side panels, single-sided, peashooter-style dual exhausts, and gorgeous-looking spoke wheels. The centre of attraction is obviously the protruding cylinder heads of its boxer-twin engine.
Powering the R 12 nineT is a 1,170cc, air/oil-cooled engine with twin, horizontally-placed cylinders and their bore and stroke measuring 101mm and 73mm, respectively. It churns out 109bhp at 7,000rpm and 115Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. This motor clings on to a tubular bridge steel frame that is not only lighter but also lends the bike a cleaner look. The 17-inch wheels are suspended by 45mm USD forks and a paralever swingarm with a directly linked spring strut at the rear. A pair of 310mm discs and a single 265mm rotor handle the braking duties.
On the electronics front, the R 12 nineT comes equipped with cornering ABS, traction control, engine drag torque control, a keyless ride system, three riding modes, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. If the buyers chooses to buy the optional Comfort Package, it facilitates the bike with Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, and cruise control.
